Get Into…Youth Exchanges (Day One)

21st February 2018

Get Into…Youth Exchanges (Day One) Hey it’s Eve from Newcastle, Leon from Croatia and Harmony from Norway. The Norwegian and Croatian group arrived on Thursday evening and the uk joined on Friday! UK just got the bus and walked to the hostel. Croatia and Norway however had a more difficult travel. Croatia first drove to the airport, before flying to Amsterdam where a 4 hour long delay awaited them. Not a great start but surely it will get better.  This was the first time that all of the young people except me flew. We took another plane to Newcastle, and drove to the hostel. Norway first took a train to Oslo (the capital) from there we flew to Heathrow in London, we took the metro to Kings Cross, and a train from there to Newcastle.  We were met by 3 UK Leaders and off we went to the hostel, our home for the week Get Into Youth Exchanges Our base for the week is Bar loco, a small friendly bar/café near St James park.  Its a cosy meeting space close to all amenities.  Firstly we had some ice breakers and set some ground rules at Bar Loco. We went to the park and played Kenny’s made up game which got the majority of us very muddy. We planned to play for longer but a dog ate our ball. Afterwards we ate, and had some more ice breakers. We went back to the hostel for a while, had some reviewing and free time and then we got taxis to Northbourne where we had dinner, and played games together. After that we returned to the hostel, and spent more time together in our rooms. And then we went to sleep.  I think we have all learnt everyone’s names which is a challenge as there are 32 of us!

Today was all about meeting new people and learning about them and setting the grounds of understanding week ahead.
