Get into…Metro Challenge (Day four)

Hello, here’s Chiara again, your Italian volunteer!

Today my Turkish friend and colleague Fatih led a tour around the Tyneside with an interactive and creative challenge invented by Nicola, one of our Northbourne staff.  The metro challenge was an idea which allowed young people to travel using the metro line and ferry to visit  5 or 6 places including Tynemouth, Wallsend, North & South Shields.  Along the way challenges were set in various places, historical dates, names of people and creative selfies and videos earned teams points to bring them closer to becoming Metro challenge Champions at the end of the week.

Typical weather in the UK meant we had the worst weather so far in the exchange it was misty, wet and foggy! But we did not let this spoil of challenge.  The group were in high spirits as the worked together in 4 small teams to answer all of the tasks.  But we were all pleased when we got to Tymeouth and it was time to sit in the warm cafe with a hot cup of tea and some traditional Fish & Chips!

This time I Interviewed  Georga from Newcastle, Leonarda and Mihaela from Croatia and Harvor from Norway.

Despite living in Newcastle and having visited some of the places before with friends, Goerga didn’t know the things she discovered, especially at the museum in Wallsend, which was her most favourite place of the day. Leonarda and Mihaela liked a lot the idea of the challenge, both because they learnt many interesting facts about Newcastle and its surroundings and they had the chance to stay outside and have some free time, which some of them used to see the beach, local shops and to find out, with massive surprise, that in England churches have shops inside: I know, I know, I couldn’t believe it either! Finally, Harvor couldn’t help but agreeing; he thinks the way he learnt things today was great and more interesting than others.

After completing the challenge and playing the piano at Central Station, everybody had some deserved free time before a Greek dinner all together.

What? My favourite moment of the day? The boat, of course! I love boats and I love water, and I was happy and excited to enter the captain’s cabin with my group to take a selfie for our challenge.

So this is all for today! See you tomorrow guys, and thank you again to Nicola and Fatih for this wonderful day!
