Get into…Evaluations (Day seven, we can’t believe it’s the last day already)

GET INTO… EVALUATIONS & FAREWELL

I remember when I was younger and the time seemed so slow to me, and then I grew up and found out how quick it could fly. For me, it seems yesterday that we started this exchange: I wonder if it’s the same for our young people.

As with any project it’s important to capture the learning and reflection the experience we have had.  Today it was time for creative evaluations and to use what they learnt during the last days to make some videos on their own. Divided into groups after a 30 seconds energizer (happy birthday Leon!), they choose a topic among bullying, racism, religion, LGBTQ and hate speech and went outside to record a video for each group that will be shown tonight, together with the evaluation boards.

This time into smaller groups, one person per country, they had the chance to use all the tools we gave them and the pictures we printed to make colourful posters with quotes and facts. I loved all of their works!

Armed with lots of crafty tools and material we asked them to create visual masterpieces summarizing their week and the skills which they learnt.

It seemed a productive and interesting day, and I was glad to see how involved they were with sharpies and papers. Georga fell immediately in love with the scrap-booking material, Julie declared she loves this kind of evaluations, and Jack and Harmony have such a nice handwriting! Each group presented in their own unique and creative way.  The boards are now displayed at Northbourne as a reminder fo the week we had with our new friends.

And now after filling our stomachs with all you can eat at Za Za Bazar and the last chance to go for shopping, they will meet again for a last evening together at our farewell party.  The party was great with singing and dancing, they did not want it to wend, they had forgotten about any earlier tiredness and danced into the late evening.  With a few tears and some sad goodbyes i think we can all agree a successful and enjoyable week was had by all.

I hope this week was as exciting and interesting and full of memories as it was for me. Cultural exchange are beautiful and powerful tools all young people should benefit from, and I can tell you all of our nice participants seemed to have taken something memorable from this. They may not be aware of that right now, but they will realize it one day, I promise you.

Thank you everybody for staying with us for seven long days. Have a nice trip back and see you next time – maybe in another country, who knows!
